  • Forty-seven graduate students received teaching enhancement scholarships from the Winthrop-King Institute in 2016-2017.
  • Nineteen French graduate students had their tuition fees covered by the Winthrop-King Institute in 2016-2017.
  • Fourteen undergraduate students received a $6,000 summer study abroad scholarship each in 2016-2017. The winners will be able to study in nine foreign countries such as France, Germany, Italy, China, Russia, Spain, Morocco, Japan,  and Brazil
  • Twenty-two graduate students have received funding from the Winthrop-King Institute in 2016-2017 to present both at national and international conferences.
  • Four graduate students received funding from the Winthrop-King Institute in 2016-2017 to travel to foreign countries to conduct academic research. Countries such as Romania, Spain, Canada, and France

  • Two high school students have received awards from the Winthrop-King Institute this academic year to travel to a French speaking country in order to improve their French linguistic and cultural knowledge.
  •  Two special issues of peer-reviewed journals drawn from Winthrop-King conferences were published in 2016-2017.
  • Nineteen faculty members in the department received awards from the Institute to present at national and international conferences.
  • One faculty member will be able to conduct research in Japan thanks to awards from the Winthrop-King Institute for summer 2017.
  • The Winthrop-King institute is now offering $ 5,000 ABD scholarship to students in the French program to dedicate summer to research. Two Awardees will benefit from the scholarship in summer 2017.
  • The Winthrop-King institute sponsored five lectures and one conference for the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics’ in 2016-2017.
  • This academic year the Winthrop-King co-sponsored one graduate student’s conference and three FSU lectures such as ACC Road Scholars Lecture Series featuring Silvio Torres-Saillant and Michael Garval, and Art in the North Caribbean featuring Edouard Duval-Carrié.
  • For thirty-four days, the famous author and poet Rodney Saint-Éloi was in Tallahassee as the Winthrop-King Institute Writer in Residence.
  • Two students will be selected this summer to benefit from a new exchange with the Université des Antilles. In spring 2018, they will be able to study in Martinique.
  • In October 2016, forty-five speakers presented at the Winthrop-King’s conference The Performance of Pan-Africanism: From Colonial Exhibitions to Black and African Cultural Festivals.
  • 1,775 Winthrop King brochures, promoting the French program at Florida State University and the valuable work of the Winthrop-King Institute, were mailed out in 2016-2017. http://winthropking.fsu.edu/view-our-brochure
  • Thanks to the institute’s collaboration with two great programs (the Slavic program at FSU and the France-Florida Research Institute at UF), the screening and roundtable discussion of Francofonia was a great success in October 2016.
  • Winthrop-King guest speaker Fabienne Kanor was at FSU for four days presenting her work, interacting with students, and giving lectures and interviews.
  • One Winthrop-King Postdoctoral Scholar supported by the Institute.
